Buttery Spiced Pie Crust
Spiced Pie Crust Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- Cold unsalted butter
- Granulated sugar
- Salt
- Spices:
- Cinnamon
- Cloves
- Ginger
- Nutmeg
- Cold water
How to Make Spiced Pie Crust
Note: Leave butter in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it
Step 1
Stir flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg together in a large mixing bowl until evenly mixed. If you have a pre-mixed pumpkin pie spice, you can use 1 Tbsp of it in place of the individual spices.
Step 2
Cut the butter into small cubes. Cold butter works best for pie crusts! So, if the butter softens while you are cutting it, put the cubes back into the fridge for 5 minutes.
Step 3
Add the butter to the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl. Using a pastry cutter, start cutting the butter into the dry ingredients. Continue until a coarse mixture forms and there are still larger chunks of butter.
The pastry cutter is my favorite way to start mixing a pie crust because the sharp edges easily cut through the cold butter. If you don’t have one, you could also use a fork or pulse the dough a few times in a food processor.
Step 4
To get that extra buttery flavor in your pie crust, use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour and start to shape the dough into a ball. Continue until the dough has almost come together. You still want to have visible lumps of butter throughout the pie crust dough.

- 1 Tbsp pumpkin spice

- ½ to 2 Tbsp cold water
